Dazu kommen einige Wissenschaftler, die auf Forschungsstationen in King Edward Point die Flora und Fauna erfassen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dass hei\u00dft aber nicht, dass es keine Freizeitangebote g\u00e4be. Wenn sie etwa ein Faible f\u00fcr raue und karge Landschaften, eisige K\u00e4lte sowie anspruchsvolle bis alpine Gewaltm\u00e4rsche haben, dann k\u00f6nnten sie ins bergige Landesinnere vordringen oder sich an den Aufstieg des nahezu 3000 Meter hohen Mount Paget machen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wer etwas f\u00fcr Kultur \u00fcbrig hat, der kann sogar eine Ausstellung besuchen. Das S\u00fcdgeorgien-Museum hat Exponate zur Geschichte der Robben- und Walfangjagd zu bieten. Es steht in der inzwischen verlassenen Siedlung Grytviken, einer ehemaligen Walfangstation &#8211; im Grunde ist der ganze Ort ein Museum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Im Sommer leben im 1916 erbauten Museumsh\u00e4uschen zudem einige Mitarbeiter, sie machen den Rest der knapp mehr als zwei Dutzend Inselbewohner aus. Besucher gibt es auch gelegentlich, sie stammen vor allem von Kreuzfahrtschiffen, die hier Halt machen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wer sich f\u00fcr so eine Reise entscheidet, der sollte vor allem Interesse an der Tierwelt haben. Denn die gr\u00f6\u00dfte Population auf S\u00fcdgeorgien sind die etwa f\u00fcnf Millionen Seehunde sowie 65 Millionen V\u00f6gel, dazu z\u00e4hlen etwa die riesigen Albatrosse. Auch Wale kann man beobachten.
