Es wurde zur Unterscheidung von den anderen Nationalit\u00e4ten der Donaumonarchie \u201eDeutsches Volkstheater\u201c genannt und sollte ein b\u00fcrgerliches Gegenst\u00fcck zum kaiserlichen Hofburgtheater schaffen. Erster Pr\u00e4sident war der Stuhlfabrikant Franz Thonet.<\/p>\n<p>Den Intentionen der Gr\u00fcnder zufolge sollten neben dem Volksst\u00fcck vor allem klassische und moderne Dramen einer breiten Bev\u00f6lkerungsschicht nahegebracht werden. Ein gro\u00dfer Zuschauerraum war neben erschwinglichen Preisen daf\u00fcr Voraussetzung. Als Standort wurde der Weghuberpark zwischen den kaiserlichen Stallungen und dem Palais Trautson ausgew\u00e4hlt. Am 14.
